Traditional verbal "contract" between martial arts teacher and student

I teach; you learn
I speak; you listen
I ask; you do

Notice the lack of punctuation in the contract. How would you read it? Most American instructors read it like an order from a Marine D.I. You even hear the exclamation points in their voices as they pronounce each line. Now, read it as if each line were a question, for all true contracts require the consent and cooperation of both parties. It not only sounds different, it becomes a contract in the truest sense rather than a dictate.
